Shocking revelation that many developers retain mineral, oil and other underground rights

Recently, several buyers in the Valencia Golf and Country Club in Naples, Florida were shocked to learn that their developer, D.R. Horton, had retained the rights to extract minerals, oils and other resources on their lots and under their homes. County records reveal that D.R. Horton still owns the natural gas, water, oil and other natural resources underneath more than 10,000 lots in Florida alone.

Adding insult to injury in this entire scenario is the fact that severed mineral rights are not usually factored into real estate tax assessments. Thus, real property owners who do not own these rights can wind up paying the same as owners who do own these rights even though the property values is diminished as a result of the rights having been severed. – See more at: http://www.condoandhoalawblog.com/2013/10/shocking-revelation-that-many.html
